Chalo Chatu:Copyright violations
This page outlines Chalo Chatu’s policy on copyright violations and the procedures used to identify, report, and remove infringing content. All contributors are expected to respect the intellectual property rights of others and comply with Chalo Chatu’s licensing terms.
Definition of a Copyright Violation
A copyright violation occurs when a contributor adds content (text, media, or other material) to Chalo Chatu without:
- Proper permission from the copyright holder, or
- A compatible free license (such as CC BY-SA 4.0 or public domain), or
- A valid fair-use justification (under exceptional, well-documented circumstances)
Even partial copying, close paraphrasing, or adapted material may be a violation if attribution is not properly given or the license is not compatible.
Policy
Chalo Chatu does not tolerate copyright infringement. To protect the platform and its users, all contributors must:
- Avoid uploading or posting copyrighted material without clear permission.
- Only contribute original work or freely licensed/public domain material.
- Provide source information, authorship, and license details for all non-text content.
How to Identify Copyright Violations
The following signs may indicate a copyright problem:
- Material identical or closely similar to a website, book, or article without attribution
- Uploaded images with no license, no author, or no source
- Media files labeled as “All rights reserved,” copied from commercial or news sites
- Contributions made without any source reference or declared permission
What to Do If You Suspect a Violation
If you believe that a page or file contains copyrighted material:
- Post a message on the article's talk page with the specific concern.
- Add the template:
{{copyright concern}}
to alert reviewers. - Notify the editorial team via email at chabota@chalochatu.org if the issue is serious or widespread.
Do not remove the content yourself unless you are certain it violates policy. Let an experienced editor or admin review the case.
Removal of Infringing Content
If a copyright violation is confirmed:
- The infringing material will be removed immediately.
- The page may be deleted if it contains no usable original content.
- A clear edit summary or log entry will be left explaining the action.
If repeated violations are committed by the same user, they may be:
- Warned via their user talk page
- Blocked temporarily or permanently to protect the integrity of the project
Appeals
If content you added was removed for suspected copyright issues, you may:
- Provide evidence of permission or a compatible license
- Clarify authorship and attribution
- Request a second review by a different editor or administrator
All appeals must be submitted via the article's talk page or by email.
