Chalo Chatu documents the history, people, culture, and institutions of Zambia. In order to preserve the reliability and integrity of the encyclopedia, not every subject or story qualifies for inclusion. This policy sets out the standards for notability that all articles must meet before being accepted into the encyclopedia.

General Principle

Chalo Chatu does not allow anyone to write anything they wish. All contributions must meet the platform’s editorial criteria, with a focus on verifiable, factual, and notable content. Submissions are reviewed and approved by the editorial team before being published.

Definition of Notability

A subject is considered notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable, published sources that are independent of the subject. These sources may include:

  • Books, newspapers, magazines, academic journals
  • Government records or publications
  • Reputable news outlets or media
  • Established Zambian historical archives
  • Verified community or institutional publications

Zambian Focus

Chalo Chatu is written by Zambians for Zambia. Therefore:

  • Priority is given to Zambian topics, events, people, and places.
  • Subjects must have a clear relevance to Zambia’s history, culture, or society.
  • Regional or tribal significance is acceptable if it can be supported with verified sources or recorded oral accounts (see below).

Oral History (With Conditions)

Chalo Chatu does accept oral stories — but not without review. For oral accounts to be considered:

  • They must be from credible witnesses or recognized elders
  • They must be accompanied by context, dates, and supporting evidence, where possible
  • The editorial team may conduct verification or interviews before approval
  • All oral history is labeled accordingly for transparency and may be cross-referenced with documentary evidence when available

What is Not Acceptable

The following types of content will not be accepted under this policy:

  • Personal stories or self-promotion
  • Unverified claims or conspiracy theories
  • Non-notable individuals or events without lasting impact
  • Fabricated or fictional content presented as fact
  • Pages created solely for vanity or advertising purposes

Exceptions and Editorial Review

In exceptional cases, the editorial team may consider content of emerging notability or ongoing historical value, particularly in rural or under-documented communities. However, all such content must go through a thorough editorial process before being published.

Final Authority

The Chalo Chatu Editorial Board reserves the right to accept, modify, or reject any article or submission that does not meet notability standards. All decisions are final and based on the platform’s commitment to accuracy, neutrality, and public trust.
