Mumba S. Kapumpa is a distinguished Zambian legal professional, diplomat and corporate governance expert. He has served in numerous high-profile roles, including as Zambia’s first resident Ambassador to South Korea and as Board Vice-Chairperson at World Vision Zambia.
Early Life & Legal Career
Kapumpa earned his LLB with Distinction in International and Company Law from the University of Zambia in 1970 and entered legal practice in 1972. He later attained the rank of State Counsel (SC). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoDZ) and has lectured on corporate governance at Cavendish University in Lusaka. He also served as a certified tutor in corporate governance from 2003[1].
Diplomatic Service
In September 2014, Kapumpa became Zambia’s first resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea, presenting his credentials to President Park Geun-hye in Seoul. His mission strengthened diplomatic and economic ties between Zambia and South Korea under Presidents Michael Sata and Edgar Lungu[2][3].
Corporate Governance & Consultancy
Kapumpa has made significant contributions in governance reforms across both private and public sectors. He was involved in formulating the OECD Southern African Guidelines on the Governance of State-Owned Enterprises and participated in the ACCA-KPMG Corporate Governance study for Zambia and Malawi in 2012–2013. He presented at ACCA’s Africa conference on corporate governance development in 2017[4].
Charitable Engagement
He has been actively involved with World Vision Zambia, serving as the Board Vice-Chairperson and Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee since 2012. Prior to that, he had held the position of Board Chairperson[5].
Personal Life
Kapumpa is married to Chisanga Hilda Mutale Kapumpa, and together they have five children: Mumba, Mukuni, Chanda, Mwila and Mwamba. He is also involved in Christian Missions in Many Lands and worships at Lusaka Gospel Hall[6].
