  • 1958Kenneth Kaunda (then Secretary-General of the Zambia African National Congress) is arrested at Broken Hill (Kabwe) for “unlawful assembly” after addressing striking mine workers.
  • 1975Zambia National Service (ZNS) conducts its first joint parachute training with Yugoslav instructors at Makeni Range.
  • 1990National football team defeated Swaziland 2–0 at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium in a 1992 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier—an early step in the squad’s emotional rebuilding after the 1993 air tragedy
  • 1994 – Zambia Airways Fokker F-27 (9J-RCN) crash-lands at Kasaba Bay with no fatalities; final flight of the national carrier before liquidation.
