Lima Time was a weekly agricultural television programme produced by the National Agricultural Information Services (NAIS) of Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture and broadcast on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) every Sunday at 18:00 hours.[1][2][3]

Format and content

Each episode featured host and producer Mpundu Mwape, who provided expert interviews, practical farming demonstrations, market analysis, crop management advice and updates on agricultural trends. It was known for its accessible presentation style and the host’s charismatic delivery.[4]

Lima Time became essential viewing for farmers across Zambia, influencing national agricultural practices. Its trusted status is attributed to Mwape’s authoritative yet warm style.[5] Colleagues recall that the programme helped NAIS secure a recognizable brand and established agricultural programming standards.[6]

History

The programme began in 1985 when NAIS commissioned Mpundu Mwape to produce and present agricultural content on radio. It later transitioned to television on ZNBC, broadcasting until June 2020 when Mwape retired at age 60.[7]

Lima Time aired weekly on Sundays at 18:00 (6 PM) on ZNBC television, reaching rural and peri-urban audiences. It was delivered in English, Bemba, and [[Nyanja], with occasional guest segments in Kaonde and Tonga.[8][9]

End of production

The final episode aired in June 2020 coinciding with Mpundu Mwape’s retirement after 35 years of service. The programme ceased after his departure, sparking calls for a successor to continue the legacy of agricultural media education.[10]
