Dundumwezi

Dundumwezi is a constituency in the south-west of Kalomo District of Southern Province, Zambia. It is an underdeveloped remote constituency that lacks infrastructure and basic necessities and is often ignored by the government. It lacks roads hospitals, schools and housing.
Demographics
Dundumwezi is inhabited by the Tonga people of Zambia.
August 2016 Election
In 2012 Dundumwezi constituents favored an independent candidate over the popular United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate.
In the August 2016 General Election, voters showed overwhelming support for the leading opposition party President Hakainde Hichilema while only 252 voted for the ruling party President Edgar Lungu, who had never visited the area.[1]
The elections were marred by violence instigated by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Party against supporters of the opposition parties.
The counting process took three days. The result was called into question by many opposition parties. They accused the ruling party of
- delaying the release of the result
- granting election server access to foreign IT specialists with connections to the ruling party
- disposing of opposition party ballot papers that were discovered in a bin
- having pre-marked ballot papers and
- allowing unverified ballot papers to be counted
The area had been visited by a sitting President once in 1991 and ignored thereafter.
