Omelo Mumba (died 3 March 1963[1]) was a freedom fighter who fought for a black majority government in pre-independence era of Zambia. He was appointed Regional Secretary for Kenneth Kaunda's United National Independence Party (UNIP) in Eastern Province of the country and he was an avid campaigner for the party.[2]
Personal life
Mumba was married to Veronica Mumba.[2]
Legacy
There is a school in Katete, a 745m road in Lusaka's Rhodes Park and a house at Nyika Hotel in Petauke named after Omelo Mumba.[1] Omelo Mumba Road in 745m long and stretches from Great East Road to Parirenyetwa Road in Lusaka. Omelo Mumba School in Katete, Eastern Province is also used as a polling station in during elections.
