Mateyo served as Inspector General of Police between 2006 to 2008 during the [[Levy Mwanawasa]] regime. During this time, he served with distinction and he was known to fight lawlessness without favour.  
Mateyo rose through the [[Zambia Police Service]] and was appointed Inspector General of Police

In April 2008, while Zambia held the rotating presidency of the Southern African Regional

Ephraim Maluba Mateyo (died 16 June 2021) was a Zambian police officer who served as Inspector General of Police from 2006 to 2008 under President Levy Mwanawasa.[1] He later served as Permanent Secretary for North-Western Province from 2016 until 2019, and died in 2021 following illness related to COVID-19.[2] [3]

Police career

Mateyo rose through the Zambia Police Service and was appointed Inspector General of Police in 2006, succeeding Zunga Siakalima, and served until 2008.[4] During the 2006 election season he publicly warned political cadres against violence, reflecting a firm public-order stance in that period.[5]

In April 2008, while Zambia held the rotating presidency of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO), Mateyo launched a regional project on combating organised crime at a workshop in Livingstone, underscoring his role in regional security co-ordination.[6]

Diplomatic appointment

In March 2009, President Rupiah Banda named Mateyo Ambassador to Germany during a swearing-in of new envoys at State House.[7] Subsequent government communication in 2010 indicated the administration would clarify changes around that appointment; media reports at the time noted uncertainty about whether the posting proceeded as planned.[8]
