Events
Post-Independence (1964 – 2001)
- 1997–Following the controversial Kabwe shooting incident earlier that year, President Frederick Chiluba publicly acknowledged that police had fired live ammunition, but challenged former President Kenneth Kaunda and politician Rodger Chongwe to prove they had been injured in the incident. This moment deepened political tensions that followed the failed coup of 1997.
Post-Independence (2002 – Present)
- 2009–The National Assembly of Zambia held a debate on the country’s economic strategy, focusing on the management of foreign exchange reserves and the need to broaden the tax base by reviewing VAT exemptions to reduce dependence on foreign aid.
