The National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) is a tertiary learning institution in Zambia. The college offers courses such as Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Protect Management, Presentation Skills, CISCO, NGO Management, Basic and Advanced Accounting.

History

NIPA was established in 1963 by the British Colonial government as a Staff Training College (STC). The focus for the institute then was to provide management, supervisory and clerical training to African civil servants working for the colonial civil service in Northern Rhodesia as Zambia was called then. The institute has since then undergone a number of changes.

In 1966 the STC was transformed into National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) and its focus was more on training the post-independence civil service and public servants in management. In 1998 NIPA was transformed into a semi-autonomous public institution under the Act No 15 of 1998. The new NIPA started operating in 2000.

As a semi-autonomous institution, NIPA has its own Board of Directors (Governing Council) and its Chief Executive (Executive Director). As a result of this major shift in status, NIPA lost its monopoly over public sector training, research and consultancy and had to compete with other institutions in the liberalized market. The Institute has, therefore, had to invest its financial and other resources into marketing in order to remain competitive.

Campuses

NIPA has two campuses in Lusaka; the main campus is located on Dushambe Road and the second one on Burma Road. It also has one campus in Ndola on the Copperbelt.
