Colonial period
- 1916 – Robinson Nabulyato, future Speaker of the National Assembly, is born in Mongu.
- 1958 – Kenneth Kaunda and others launch the Zambia African National Congress (ZANC) at Mulungushi Rock in Kabwe.
- 1962 – General elections are held in Northern Rhodesia; Harry Nkumbula’s ANC and Kaunda’s UNIP form a coalition, paving the way for independence.
Post-independence
- 2006 (1–2 October) – Levy Mwanawasa is declared winner of the presidential election; riots break out in Lusaka.
